Graphic and Type Creation

The following were part of an assignment to to create three graphic images advertising the FSCJ H.O.P.E. Food Pantry. The images were to be a sharable option that would be appropriate for social media, a monitor option that could be displayed on monitors around the campus, and a small poster option that could be printed and placed in high traffic locations around the campuses.

Because it is for a Food Pantry, I chose to use a subtle reference to food, by taking a photo of beans and converting it into an abstract graphic design and layering it as the background for all three images.

American Spaces Poster Creation

Diplomacy Lab Project – U.S. Department of State partnership, Office of American Spaces, and Florida State College at Jacksonville

Team member for American Spaces: Glow up the Brand Identity of the State Department’s Cultural Centers Abroad – Make this Network Shine project.
Our team partnered with the Office of American Spaces in researching and providing redesign options for the marketing and branding systems and various graphics and social media materials. I led one of the five collaborative teams and presented research reports, a branding guides, a virtual background, and creative marketing posters to the Office of American Spaces. Along with assisting to create the presentation, I created and provided four unique marketing posters to the Office of American Spaces, which were selected to be made available to over 650 locations in 140 countries globally.

STEM robotics poster

One of the asks for the project was to create posters promoting STEM. For this I chose to focus on robotics as many American Spaces have maker spaces offering robotics training.

Another ask for the project was to create a set of themed posters. For this and the following two posters, I chose to feature the theme of Women’s History and Empowerment.

Imposter syndrome vs Dunning-Kruger effect.

The end of term project, for my Senior year Portfolio Development class, was to create and showcase a new work that outlines the ideas and impact of both Imposter Syndrome and the Dunning -Kruger effect. The two cognitive biases can impact the career of anyone, whether they are an artist or business professional.

As a photographer, I chose to create a visual work in diptych form of composited images portraying the attitudes or emotions one would expect from these two biases. I started by looking for inspiration works to figure out how I wanted to edit the final images. I ensured I had the necessary tools and supplies, found two models, secured their agreement, and scheduled the shoot.

I originally intended to use two models and so I shot both. During the shoot, I realized one of the models was struggling to convey the ideas I was wanting, so I shot images of both models portraying both ideas, so that I would have options. After the shoot, while editing the images it was even more apparent that there was a difference between the two. I continued to prepare for using both models, but when creating the composition, I realized the image looked out of balance using two different models and using two different backdrops. I wound up using images of only one model against the black backdrop. It adds a symmetry to the final composition that I like.
